Meet Victoria Jung

Victoria Jung

Victoria Jung is the current Chair of the Vancouver School Board, and she has joined the Vancouver Liberal team to seek election for Vancouver City Council. For the last four years, Victoria has held the position as Chair, working with members from across four different parties, as well as independent trustees in order to support the school communities in our city.

Victoria came to Vancouver as a young person, and knows how hard it is to keep young people in the city. As a renter, she knows that the lack of affordable housing and well-paying jobs means young people are often forced to leave the city in order to seek opportunities elsewhere. As a Vancouver City Councillor, Victoria wants to give young people and families a voice in the big decisions shaping our future: on housing, affordability, transportation, and community services.

Lack of childcare space in Vancouver is the single biggest issue for young families in Vancouver. With her experience as Chair of the Vancouver School Board, Victoria knows we have families leaving Vancouver because they can’t find appropriate childcare – and it’s time that stops. We need to bring people back to Vancouver and keep them here.

Currently, the Vancouver School Board offers K-12 education and programming for adult learners. Victoria would like to see their mandate expand to include childcare. Our schools have both the infrastructure and the space to provide more childcare spaces, and Victoria knows public school facilities are the best opportunity to increase childcare spaces quickly.

City Council needs strong advocates with proper experience to work with the school board, the provincial government, CUPE, BCTF, and other important partners to make this happen. Victoria is going to be a leader on getting this done.

In addition to a passion for childcare, Victoria is driven to support the important services provided by our public libraries. As an avid reader and long-time book club member, Victoria knows that the Vancouver Public Library makes it possible for people to learn, gather, and access education, community, and so much more. Victoria knows the Vancouver Liberals are the party that will not get distracted by divisive politics, and will instead make sure that libraries are supported to stay open and properly staffed.

Victoria loves this city. She loves Stanley Park, she loves riding her bike around the city, and playing soccer at David Lam and Trillium Parks. Victoria’s family came here as immigrants, and she feels strongly that when we properly support our young people and families, it’s a sign of a healthy city. She wants to ensure that all Vancouverites are taken care of – with investments in childcare, our libraries, public parks, community centres, and frontline services.

As a member of the Vancouver Liberals, Victoria will be your advocate to make sure young people and families have everything they need to live thriving and healthy lives in our beautiful city.
